Prime Focus Offices Raided by Income Tax; Shares Drop 8%

On Wednesday morning, October 7, the Income Tax Department carried out searches at the Mumbai offices of Prime Focus Ltd, the production house behind the highly anticipated film Ramayana. The raids also extended to the residences of several individuals linked to the company, according to an exclusive report by CNBC-TV18.

The investigation is reportedly related to foreign remittances, though the authorities have not disclosed the specific transactions under scrutiny. Prime Focus, led by Namit Malhotra, is a prominent Indian media and entertainment services firm with a global footprint in visual effects, animation, post‑production, and content creation.

Prime Focus’s involvement in Ramayana, a project helmed by director Nitesh Tiwari and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol, and Ravie Dubey, has placed the company under intense public and market scrutiny. The film is slated for a Diwali release, just a month away.

Following the news of the tax raids, Prime Focus shares fell sharply—by 8%—as investors reacted to the uncertainty surrounding the company’s financial affairs. Neither Prime Focus nor the Income Tax Department has released detailed statements regarding the search operations, and further information is awaited.
