WIF India partners with Google Flow to launch AI filmathon; top films to screen at IFFI 2026

Women in Film India (WIF India) has teamed up with Google Flow to launch the WIF India × Google Flow Filmathon, a new platform that invites filmmakers and storytellers to experiment with AI‑powered tools. The partnership aims to blend cinema, creativity and emerging technology, offering participants a chance to explore how artificial intelligence can expand the possibilities of visual storytelling.

The initiative will provide a creative workspace built on Google’s Gemini Omni and Veo models, giving filmmakers an intuitive canvas to arrange scenes, batch‑edit clips, and layer audio. Participants can develop original ideas and test new visual concepts, learning how to harness AI to enhance their craft while keeping the core of filmmaking – the storyteller and the story – at the forefront.

Guneet Monga Kapoor, Founder and CEO of WIF India, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We are excited to create Filmathon with Google Flow because it gives filmmakers a real space to experiment. There is so much talent and so many stories waiting to be explored. We want to encourage filmmakers to stay curious, try new things and see where their ideas can go when they have access to a new creative tool.”

Dr. Arathi Sethumadhavan, Director of International Activations & Product Insights at Google, highlighted the momentum of Google Flow in India: “Through the Filmathon, we can’t wait to see the short films storytellers across the country bring to life — and how they expand the boundaries of artistic expression through this technology.”

Rabia Chopra, Head of Programming and Strategy at WIF India, added: “Our collaboration with Google Flow gives filmmakers access to a new creative studio while keeping the most important part of filmmaking where it belongs: with the storyteller and the story. We are excited to see what filmmakers across the country create.”

The Filmathon is open to creators at all stages, from newcomers to seasoned professionals looking to try something new. Participants will have the opportunity to learn, experiment, and produce short films that could be among the top five selected for screening at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa in 2026.

For WIF India, the Filmathon continues its mission to provide broader access and meaningful opportunities for filmmakers through new platforms and partnerships. For Google, the program underscores its ongoing commitment to supporting the creative community by integrating advanced AI tools into the filmmaking process.
