Veteran actor Nana Patekar dies after midnight cardiac arrest; friends alerted at 2:30 AM

Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar, 75, died early Thursday morning after a cardiac arrest at his home. According to Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of Oncology at Manipal Hospital, the actor was found unresponsive and could not be revived despite extensive resuscitation efforts. The doctor confirmed that Patekar was declared dead by 5:30 am after approximately 45 minutes to an hour of cardiac massage.

Sources say the actor had sent a text to a friend at about 2:30 am, saying he was feeling unwell. Because it was late, the friend did not see the message immediately. He later called Patekar and arrived at the residence around 4 am, when the actor was reportedly sweating and his condition had worsened. The friend and a caretaker began first‑aid measures before calling emergency services.

When the hospital’s emergency response team reached the house, they found Patekar completely unresponsive and began cardiac massage. He was then transported to Manipal Hospital in Goa at roughly 4:20–4:30 am. Despite the team’s efforts, the actor could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Following his death, a police medico‑legal case (MLC) was opened. Dr. Salkar noted that Patekar’s body was taken to Goa Medical College for a post‑mortem examination. Family members were not present at the time of the incident; only friends and a caretaker were with him.

Patekar’s career began with the 1978 film “Gaman,” and he went on to become one of India’s most respected actors, known for his intense performances and contributions to both mainstream and parallel cinema.
