Bokshi’s release delayed; new date set for December 4

Indian folk‑horror film Bokshi, starring Prasanna Bisht and directed by first‑time filmmaker Bhargav Saikia, has had its theatrical launch pushed back from its original October 9, 2026 date to December 4, 2026. The change comes after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) examined the movie’s supernatural storyline, witchcraft scenes and graphic violence, and sent it to the Revising Committee for further scrutiny.

Following a review that demanded only minor edits, the Revising Committee granted the film an ‘A’ certificate. The makers, led by production house Lorien Motion Pictures, decided to delay the release to give the film a full‑scale promotional push and to accommodate the certification process. In a statement released on October 8, the studio explained that the postponement was “necessary to ensure a seamless theatrical rollout” and thanked partners, media, content creators and the audience for their patience.

The multilingual feature—shot in Hindi, English, Nepali and the fictional language Boksirit—was created by Dutch linguist Jan van Steenbergen. It follows Anahita, a troubled teenager who, during a school trek to a remote prehistoric site, encounters an ancient legend that brings the supernatural to life. The cast also includes Mansi Multani, Siddharth Shaw and voice work from Shernaz Patel for the titular character.

Bokshi debuted at the 2025 International Film Festival Rotterdam and has since been screened at genre festivals such as Sitges and Neuchâtel. Its trailer, released weeks ago, has already generated positive buzz, especially among younger horror fans. The film will now hit select cinemas across India on December 4, 2026, after the CBFC’s approval and the production team’s decision to adjust the release window.
