Ajay Devgn has kicked off the production of his next big project, Chauhaan, in the high‑altitude town of Kargil, Ladakh. The veteran actor, who celebrated a blockbuster hit with Drishyam The Conclusion this year, is set to release Chauhaan on October 1, 2027, a full year after the October 2 weekend of the previous film.
According to a local source in Ladakh, Devgn arrived in Kargil a few days ago and has already begun shooting. “He has started filming and some key scenes will be shot in this picturesque town,” the source told Bollywood Hungama. “The makers have secured all necessary permissions in advance and have made elaborate arrangements to ensure the shoot goes smoothly.” The cold climate of Kargil, the source added, will lend an authentic touch to the war drama’s visuals.
Devgn’s return to Ladakh marks a full 23 years since his earlier work in the region for J.P. Dutta’s LOC: Kargil (2003). At that time, Ladakh was part of the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir; it became a separate Union Territory in 2019, with Leh and Kargil as its two capitals.
Directed by Neeraj Yadav and produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L. Rai, and Himanshu Sharma under Jio Studios and Colour Yellow Productions, Chauhaan was announced on June 25, 2026, the birth anniversary of the late action director Veeru Devgan, Ajay Devgn’s father. The announcement video featured the song “Jumma Chumma De De” and ended with the line, “Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa raha hai.” This marks Devgn’s first collaboration with filmmaker Aanand L. Rai.
Jio Studios is both presenter and producer on the project, and the film’s rights deal has seen the studio secure 50% intellectual property ownership, along with full exploitation and music rights. With a release slated for early October 2027, Chauhaan is poised to become a major event in the Indian film calendar, following in the footsteps of Devgn’s recent success with Drishyam The Conclusion.
