Hansal Mehta kicks off new Prime Video series; Sunny Kaushal leads crime‑drama cast

Prime Video has announced the start of production on an untitled original series directed by filmmaker Hansal Mehta. The shoot, which began this month, brings together a star‑studded cast that includes Sunny Kaushal, Bipasha Basu and Vishal Jethwa. The series is being written by Kashyap Kapoor and Raghav Raj Kakker, and produced by Prabhleen Sandhu under the banner of Almighty Motion Pictures Productions.

The narrative is set in a small, unnamed town that is on the brink of becoming the continent’s heroin capital. At its centre is an incorruptible police officer, played by Kaushal, who finds himself caught between powerful forces inside and outside the system. As he strives to protect his integrity, he must navigate a series of challenges that test his sense of right and wrong, according to the production’s description.

Almighty Motion Pictures shared a social‑media post to mark the beginning of filming, expressing excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to work with the cast and crew. The post read: “With immense happiness and a heart full of gratitude, we are delighted to share that we have begun filming another beautiful cinematic journey with a story that is truly special and very close to our hearts.” The team was highlighted as “a dream already taking shape with a magnificent team,” and the director was praised as “our Captain of the Ship.” The post concluded with a wish for new beginnings and a nod to Mahadev, ending with “Har Har Mahadev.”

While the series remains untitled and its release date has not yet been announced, the production house has promised that more details will emerge in the coming months. The project is expected to explore themes of crime, corruption and the struggle to preserve one’s principles in a challenging environment, with Kaushal’s character at the heart of that conflict. The roles of Basu and Jethwa have yet to be disclosed in detail.

Hansal Mehta, known for his work across films and streaming series, is set to helm the project, bringing his experience to a story that the makers describe as “truly special” and “very close to our hearts.” With filming underway, fans of the director and the lead actors can look forward to further updates as the series progresses toward its eventual release.
