Cinema VinesIn a recent development that has caught the attention of Bollywood insiders, playback singer Heer—known for her work in films such as Batwara 1947 and Peddi—has been confirmed as one of the female leads in the upcoming friendship comedy Side Heroes. The film, a joint venture by directors Imtiaz Ali and Mahaveer Jain, is poised to bring fresh talent to the big screen, and Heer’s casting is expected to add a layer of authenticity to the story’s musical elements.
Heer’s transition from singing to acting began with a standout audition that impressed the makers of Side Heroes. A source close to the project told Bollywood Hungama that Heer’s performance showcased not only her vocal prowess but also her potential as an on‑screen performer. The character she will portray is also a singer, making Heer’s real‑life experience a natural fit for the role. The production team is reportedly in advanced discussions with her, and an official announcement of her casting is anticipated soon.
Heer’s recent singing credits include the tracks “Tabassum” and “Chal Anjaane” from Batwara 1947, both composed by A.R. Rahman, as well as “Hellallallo” from the pan‑Indian film Peddi, also scored by Rahman. She has also lent her voice to “Roop Di Rani” in Pati Patni Aur Woh Do alongside Guru Randhawa, and “Chhaap Tilak” from Ginny Wedss Sunny 2, both produced by Tanishk Bagchi.
Directed by S.Sanjay Tripathy and written by Siddarth Sen—known for Good Luck Jerry—and Pankaj Matta, Side Heroes follows a group of friends reuniting in the heartland of India. The film also stars Varun Sharma, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana. Production is led by Imtiaz Ali, Mahaveer Jain, Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, and Shikha K. Ahluwalia.
In a notable production choice, the entire film is being shot in Bihar, making it one of the rare Hindi movies to be filmed entirely in the state. The filmmakers have slated a release for Friendship Day 2027, aiming to capture the spirit of camaraderie that the story celebrates.
