Ramayana earns PG‑13 in the US; 3‑hour epic set for Diwali release

Ramayana, the highly anticipated epic that is set to hit screens on Diwali, is now three weeks away from its global premiere. The film, directed by Ranbir Kapoor, is poised to become the biggest Indian release ever worldwide, with the production team working tirelessly to ensure a flawless launch.

In a significant milestone, the Motion Picture Association of America has cleared Ramayana for a PG‑13 rating. The rating, which aligns with India’s U/A classification, indicates that some content may not be suitable for viewers under 13. According to the MPA, the film earned this rating because of “sequences of strong violence and action, and some bloody images.”

Another major development is the confirmation that Ramayana will run for more than three hours. IMAX’s website lists the film’s runtime as 3 hours and 15 minutes. Trade sources, however, suggest that the English‑language version may be trimmed to roughly 2 hours and 45 minutes. A definitive runtime is expected to be announced in the coming days.

For Kapoor, Ramayana follows his 2023 release Animal and marks the second time he has taken on a film exceeding the three‑hour mark. The epic also features Anupam Kher voicing the character Jatayu, as revealed in the new poster titled “The Wings of Dharma.”

With its Diwali release date approaching, fans and industry watchers alike are eager to see how the film’s expansive storytelling and action sequences will resonate with audiences both in India and abroad.
