Actress Uma Shankari has posted a new update on her Instagram account on July 14, revealing that she is currently in the second round of chemotherapy and immunotherapy for early‑stage breast cancer. She thanked her family and supporters for standing by her, and described how she is taking each day as it comes while continuing treatment. Uma noted that some days are more challenging than others, but she is learning to cope with the difficult moments and celebrating the days when she feels stronger. She added that her focus remains on recovery, acknowledging that progress may not always be perfect but it is real.
The latest message follows a heartfelt post she shared in June, in which she described the shock, disbelief, denial and unanswered questions that accompanied her diagnosis. Uma explained how the news affected her loved ones, describing it as difficult to see her family worried while she continued to support them. She thanked her husband, son, relatives and friends for their unwavering support, saying that their strength had become her own. At that time she had begun treatment and requested prayers for her recovery.
Uma Shankari’s film and television career spans Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam cinema. She made her debut in the 2000 Tamil film Veeranadai and has appeared in nearly 30 films across multiple languages, including the 2002 Malayalam hit Kuberan. Born to Kannada filmmaker D. Rajendra Babu and actress Sumithra, she studied English literature and later married software engineer H. Dushyanth in 2006. After reducing her film commitments, she returned to the screen mainly through television serials such as the Kannada Chikamma and the Tamil Valli.
Following Uma’s recent health update, fans and members of the film fraternity have flooded her social media with messages of support and wishes for a speedy recovery. The actress’s candid posts have drawn a wave of encouragement from her followers, who continue to cheer her on as she navigates her treatment journey.
