On Wednesday, October 21, the sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2023 blockbuster “Jailer” has eclipsed Vijay’s “Leo” to become the highest‑grossing Tamil film in Kerala. Film‑industry tracker AB George announced that “Jailer 2” had crossed the ₹60‑crore mark within just seven days of its theatrical release, a milestone achieved on its seventh day in theatres. An X post at 7:31 PM confirmed the record, and a later update at 10:13 PM placed the film’s Kerala gross at over ₹60.1 crore, while “Leo” was listed at ₹60 crore.
The competition for the top spot among Tamil films in Kerala has seen several hand‑offs in recent years. Kamal Haasan’s “Vikram” once held the lead before Rajinikanth’s original “Jailer” overtook it in 2023. Vijay’s “Leo” then moved ahead, setting a new benchmark. According to AB George’s latest ranking, “Jailer 2” now sits at the pinnacle with ₹60.1 crore, followed by “Leo” at ₹60 crore and the original “Jailer” at ₹57.70 crore. The difference between the sequel and “Leo” is narrow, but crossing the previous film’s lifetime figure within a week places it at the top of the tracker’s current list of highest‑grossing Tamil films in Kerala.
Other films in the top ten include “Vikram” at ₹40.10 crore, “Coolie” at ₹25 crore, “Ponniyin Selvan” at ₹24.20 crore, and Vijay’s “Bigil” at ₹19.65 crore. “Ponniyin Selvan 2” also appears among the top 10, though its exact figure is not specified in the tracker.
Released worldwide on October 15, 2026, “Jailer 2” is the sequel to the 2023 film “Jailer.” Director Nelson Dilipkumar returned as writer and director, with Kalanithi Maran producing under the Sun Pictures banner. Rajinikanth reprises his role as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, joined by returning cast members Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, and Rithvik. The sequel also features S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Vidya Balan in prominent roles, and includes cameo appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Hrithik Roshan, Jackie Shroff, and Vijay Sethupathi, among others. Anirudh Ravichander composed the music, Vijay Kartik Kannan handled cinematography, and R. Nirmal served as editor.
