In a surprising turn of events, Kerala‑based mimicry artist Jobi Kodakara has claimed that he served as the body double for Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in the Rajinikanth‑starrer Jailer 2. The film, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and released on October 15, 2026, has already sparked debate over Mohanlal’s screen time, and Kodakara’s revelation adds a new layer to the discussion.
According to Kodakara, the makers approached him for the role of stand‑in during certain portions of the sequel. He posted photos on social media showing himself wearing an outfit that closely resembled the one Mohanlal donned in the movie. Although he later deleted those posts, images from the set—showing him alongside actors S. J. Suryah and Jackie Shroff—continued to circulate online.
Jobi Kodakara, who has spent roughly twenty years performing as a dupe for actors in stage shows, also works as an actor, director and drama performer. In his post he expressed excitement at being chosen for the assignment and described the experience of working with Rajinikanth as a memorable one.
The timing of Kodakara’s disclosure—on the day the film hit theatres—has drawn criticism from some fans. They question whether the revelation was intended to fuel speculation about Mohanlal’s limited appearance. Earlier, Mohanlal’s costume designer Jishad Shamsudeen had claimed that three distinct looks created for the actor were removed from the final cut, and that a scene featuring Mohanlal in the trailer was trimmed from the theatrical release.
Some viewers have suggested that the high‑speed car sequence near the climax may have involved a stand‑in, a theory that Kodakara’s statement appears to support. However, no official confirmation has been released detailing the extent of his involvement in that particular sequence.
While the use of body doubles is common in filmmaking, Kodakara’s announcement has reignited discussions about the authenticity of Mohanlal’s performance in Jailer 2. The controversy now extends beyond the actor’s screen presence to broader questions about the film’s production choices.
