Singer Mika Singh has publicly defended his brother and fellow performer Daler Mehndi after a heated incident at the Kunjapuri Mela in Uttarakhand. The controversy erupted on October 18, when Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister and local MLA Subodh Uniyal interrupted Mehndi’s set at the annual Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in Tehri district, accusing the veteran artist of drinking alcohol on stage and questioning the quality of his performance.
In a video posted on October 20, Singh expressed disappointment over the on‑stage confrontation. He urged media outlets to verify allegations before publishing them as facts, stating, “The way Daler Mehndi was treated on stage was disappointing. A respected minister came on stage and made allegations about him drinking alcohol. But before publishing such claims, shouldn’t we verify the facts and give the artist a chance to present his side?” He added that the minister’s remarks could have been made about the performance fee, but the alcohol accusation was unfounded.
Singh also highlighted that Mehndi has been a superstar for three decades and has never been seen holding a glass of alcohol. He noted that the singer has recently undergone a major operation and has been unwell, which may have affected his energy on stage. “If he is not able to stand or he is not able to sing well, he was not feeling well. Because he had a big operation recently,” Singh said.
Addressing the broader issue of media responsibility, Singh compared the situation to how international acts would be treated. “Would anyone dare to behave like that with an international band like Coldplay?” he asked. He concluded by warning that headlines can damage reputations and called for careful fact‑checking before publishing allegations.
