With only a handful of days left until its wide release, Christopher Nolan’s latest epic, The Odyssey, is generating a storm of anticipation across India. The buzz exploded after Nolan, alongside stars Tom Holland and Matt Damon, visited Mumbai, and the film’s opening is now the focus of industry speculation.
Advance bookings opened on June 8, more than a month before the theatrical debut, and the numbers have been impressive. According to data accessed by Bollywood Hungama, the film has already sold about 1.25 lakh tickets on its opening day—50,000 through PVR Inox and 12,000 via Cinepolis. By the weekend, total sales had climbed to nearly 2.5 lakh tickets, with PVR Inox reporting 1.2 lakh tickets sold by Monday night.
In the premium IMAX arena, The Odyssey has sold 91,000 tickets across 34 screens, pulling in roughly Rs 9.5 crore in gross revenue. The film is the first feature shot entirely with IMAX cameras, a factor that has amplified demand for the high‑definition format. This performance is already outpacing the advance sales of Nolan’s 2023 release, Oppenheimer, which sold 2 lakh tickets in advance and opened at Rs 14.45 crore.
Industry analysts predict an opening weekend haul of Rs 17–18 crore, with a Rs 20 crore opening still within reach if bookings accelerate in the coming days. The movie will debut on a record‑breaking 2,500+ screens, compared to Oppenheimer’s 1,923 screens.
The July box‑office calendar looks set to be a blockbuster month, with The Odyssey poised for massive success and other titles like Dhamaal 4 and Spider‑Man: Brand New Day also drawing strong advance interest.
