The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has formally objected to the promotional material for Sunny Deol’s forthcoming crime drama, Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak. In a letter sent to film officials, the association warned that the movie’s portrayal of alleged corruption and violence against healthcare workers could foster negative stereotypes of doctors and hospital staff.
According to the IMA, the film’s depiction of widespread misconduct within the medical fraternity, the dramatization of physical assaults on doctors and nurses, and the suggestion that such attacks might be justified all risk normalising hostility toward medical professionals. The association stressed that while isolated cases of wrongdoing should be investigated and punished, they should not be used to tarnish the reputation of the many honest and dedicated doctors working in the country.
The letter also highlighted safety concerns for healthcare workers, noting that doctors and staff already face serious security challenges in hospitals. The IMA cautioned that glorifying attacks on medical personnel could encourage further hostility and endanger those who provide essential services.
In addition, the association warned that such portrayals could erode public trust in doctors, undermining the mutual confidence necessary for effective treatment. The IMA made it clear that it does not endorse unethical medical practices and that individual misconduct must be addressed through legal and disciplinary channels rather than through broad cinematic depictions.
As a result, the IMA has requested an impartial review of the film’s content and urged relevant authorities to take corrective action. The association called for measures that would address its concerns and protect the integrity of the medical profession while ensuring that the film does not contribute to unwarranted mistrust or hostility toward doctors.
