Aamir Khan has given fans a fresh glimpse into the long‑anticipated sequel to the 2009 blockbuster 3 Idiots. Speaking at the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) where he accepted the Screen Icon Award, the actor confirmed that director Rajkumar Hirani is currently drafting the script and will hand over the final version to him in the coming weeks.
During the event, Khan was careful to keep details under wraps, stating, “I’m not allowed to say a lot. I think I can say this much, that yes, Raju is working on the script. In fact, hopefully once I’m back in the next couple of weeks, he’s going to narrate the final version to me. So, fingers crossed.” The comment indicates that the sequel remains in the writing stage and has not yet entered production.
Earlier this year, Khan had hinted that the story would pick up ten years after the original film, retaining the same blend of humor and heart. He expressed enthusiasm about revisiting his character, Phunsukh “Rancho” Wangdu, and praised the collaboration between Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi, calling the project a “beautiful story.”
Despite the progress on the screenplay, no official shooting schedule or release date has been announced. Speculation that filming could start around April 2027 remains unconfirmed, as Khan’s other commitments may delay production.
