Aamir Khan’s unseen hand lifts Prahaar; director credits him in ‘Special Thanks’

On its October 16 release, the crime‑drama Prahaar drew praise for its gripping subject, emotional depth, award‑worthy performances and the first‑rate direction of Avinash Arun. While audiences celebrated the film’s storytelling, many were surprised to spot the name of Bollywood star Aamir Khan in the film’s “Special Thanks” credit section.

Bollywood Hungama spoke exclusively to Arun, who explained that the mention was not a mere courtesy but a direct result of Khan’s encouragement. “I thanked him because he got me on board,” Arun said. “He suggested my name to Mr Dinesh Vijan and told me, ‘Avinash, I think you’ll do justice to this subject and you should consider this project.’ That motivated me to take up Prahaar.”

Arun added that the director has long been a fan of Khan’s work, noting that the actor had followed his career since his debut film Killa (2015) and even reached out after the success of Paatal Lok. “I am really grateful to him because since my first film Killa, Aamir sir has been following my work. Even after Paatal Lok, he called me,” he said.

When asked about a potential future collaboration, Arun was optimistic. “We are discussing a couple of things. So, hopefully, we’ll work together soon!” he replied, hinting at possible projects that could bring the two creative minds together again.

Arun’s background is rooted in the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, where he studied before carving out a notable career as both cinematographer and director. His cinematographic credits include Masaan (2015), Drishyam (2015), Madaari (2016), Hichki (2018) and Karwaan (2018). He made his directorial debut with the Marathi film Killa, followed by Three Of Us (2023) and the web series School Of Lies, Paatal Lok and Pritam And Pedro. In Prahaar, he served in both roles, handling the director’s chair and the camera as well.
