Subhash Ghai reunites with Shreyas Talpade after two decades; 50‑year career milestone

Subhash Ghai, the veteran filmmaker who has been a fixture in Indian cinema for five decades, is set to reunite with actor Shreyas Talpade in the upcoming drama Manya. The two will meet on screen again after a 20‑year gap since Ghai’s 2005 hit Iqbal, where Talpade had already showcased his versatility.

Ghai’s 50th year in the industry coincides with the 48th anniversary of his production house, Mukta Arts, which is slated to celebrate on October 24. The milestone has prompted the studio to broaden its horizons, planning new ventures in animation, theatrical releases, OTT series and documentaries.

While Manya is directed by Sameer Joshi and produced by Mukta Arts and Puneet Aggarwal, it marks a significant collaboration for Ghai. The film follows a young boy from the slums who turns to theft, delving into his circumstances and journey. Ghai praised Talpade’s performance, noting his “exceptionally versatile” nature and his ability to bring authenticity and depth to characters, citing past works such as Apna Sapna Money Money and Golmaal.

In addition to Manya, Mukta Arts is preparing a slate that includes the action sequel Khalnayak Returns with Sanjay Dutt and a courtroom drama featuring Anil Kapoor. These projects, along with the studio’s expansion into new formats, signal a dynamic next chapter for Mukta Arts as it continues its legacy in the film industry.

Ghai’s reflection on the reunion underscores a renewed creative partnership, hinting at more exciting films in the future as Mukta Arts embarks on another year of its celebrated journey.
