Anupam Kher has been cast as the father of Sunil Munshi’s character in the upcoming Swedish‑Belgian feature Out of Fashion, a film directed by Jens Jonsson. The project, which has already begun shooting in Stockholm, follows an Indian‑origin fashion designer who must juggle a demanding career in Paris with pressing family matters back in his hometown of Sala, Sweden.
Out of Fashion centers on Armand Kaiser, a successful designer who receives an ultimatum from his Parisian house to produce a new collection in three weeks or face dismissal. At the same time, he learns that his father is suffering from irreversible dementia and that his sister needs help caring for her three children. The story takes Armand on an unexpected journey to the Himalayas to honor his father’s last wish, blending professional pressure with personal responsibility and questions of cultural identity.
Jens Jonsson, who returned to feature filmmaking after a seven‑year stint in television, previously won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance for The King of Ping Pong. He co‑writes the screenplay with Sunil Munshi, who drew on his own relationship with his father to shape the narrative. The film features a diverse supporting cast, including Bahar Pars, Helena Bergström, Krista Kosonen and Astrid Whettnall.
The production is a collaboration between Way Feature Films, Beside Productions, Film i Skåne, Film Stockholm, and SVT, with distribution handled by Scanbox Entertainment. It has also received backing from the Swedish Film Institute and the Belgian Tax Shelter. Principal photography will take place across Stockholm, Sala, Brussels and Paris from October to December 2026, with a theatrical release slated for early 2028.
