On Tuesday, October 27, industry tracker AB George announced that Rajinikanth’s latest Tamil blockbuster, Jailer 2, has eclipsed the lifetime Kerala box‑office haul of S. S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. The new figure exceeds the ₹72.20 crore gross that Baahubali 2 had accumulated in the state, a record that had stood for almost nine years. The announcement was made on the social‑media platform X, where George posted the updated numbers and highlighted the significance of the achievement for non‑Malayalam releases in Kerala.
According to the tracker, Jailer 2 has surpassed the benchmark set by Baahubali 2, becoming the highest‑grossing non‑Malayalam film in Kerala to date. While the figures are based on industry estimates and not yet audited, the milestone underscores the film’s strong performance across multiple territories, with Kerala remaining a key market for the Rajinikanth‑starrer. Jailer 2 opened worldwide on October 15, 2026, and has continued to draw audiences in the state, contributing to its record‑breaking run.
The sequel, written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, follows the story of retired cop Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, played by Rajinikanth. Co‑stars Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, and Rithvik reprise their roles from the first film, while new additions include S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Vidya Balan. The film also features cameo appearances by Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar, among other actors from various regional industries.
Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Jailer 2 boasts a soundtrack by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan, and editing by R. Nirmal. The film’s success in Kerala reflects the growing appeal of Tamil cinema in the region and marks a notable moment in the state’s box‑office history for non‑Malayalam productions.
