Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi Still Awaiting CBFC Clearance; November 13 Release Targeted

Salman Khan’s upcoming film, now titled Maatrubhumi, remains in limbo as it awaits clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) despite having secured government approval earlier this year. The project, which was first announced as Battle Of Galwan and later renamed, is set to depict the 2020 border clash between India and China. According to industry insiders, the film’s portrayal of the conflict and its references to China have raised concerns, especially amid the improving diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Bollywood Hungama reported that the makers applied for CBFC certification at the beginning of October. An assurance was given that the film would be screened on Monday, 26 October, but the screening did not take place. Salman Khan has reportedly flown to Delhi multiple times to urge the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to expedite the process. The actor has stated that he has made all the changes requested by the Ministry and has complied with the certification guidelines, but he is not seeking any special treatment.

Sources close to the production confirmed that the film is still waiting for a screening date. Khan’s team is eager to release the movie in cinemas next month, and the CBFC’s prompt action is crucial for meeting that target. The star has expressed a clear preference for a 13 November release, a slot that is currently unoccupied by other major releases.

One of the reasons behind the chosen date is the potential clash with Rajshri Productions’ Yeh Prem Mol Liya, slated for 27 November. Khan wants to avoid competing with the family‑friendly film directed by Sooraj Barjatya, whom he considers a close associate. He has also ruled out a 20 November release to maintain a two‑week lead over the other film.

Another consideration was the 4 November release of Jio Studios’ Eetha, starring Shraddha Kapoor. The distributor of Maatrubhumi explained that releasing both films on the same day would not be feasible, leading the team to settle on 13 November as the most suitable date. Ultimately, the release hinges on the CBFC granting certification in time.
