Indian distributors PVR INOX Pictures have confirmed that the Japanese monster film Godzilla Minus Zero will finally hit Indian screens, but the release has been pushed back from the originally planned November 6 date to November 20. The delay comes as the domestic epic Ramayana secures a two‑week exclusivity period on the country’s IMAX theatres, beginning on November 5.
On October 27, PVR INOX’s social‑media account posted the film’s official poster, which bears the caption “Filmed for IMAX” and the tagline “Only in theatres this November.” While the poster did not specify a date, the timing of the post and the IMAX reference have led insiders to believe that the movie will open in India two weeks after Ramayana’s IMAX run starts.
A trade source told Bollywood Hungama that both Godzilla Minus Zero and Ramayana are “made for IMAX,” and that the latter’s two‑week exclusivity will occupy the majority of IMAX screens. Consequently, the distributor is likely to schedule Godzilla Minus Zero for November 20, though discussions are underway to see if an earlier date such as November 13 could work.
Earlier this month, the same outlet reported that Godzilla Minus Zero would receive a limited IMAX showcase in India, potentially as few as one screening per theatre, with the remaining slots allocated to Ramayana. The trade source added that a final decision will be made closer to the release.
Fans, who had been debating the film’s Indian release for nearly two weeks, welcomed the update. One source said, “For almost two weeks, fans in India were speculating whether Godzilla Minus Zero would even release in India. As a result, this update was much needed.”
Complications arise from the fact that The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, another IMAX title, is also slated for a November 20 release. An industry insider warned that balancing showtimes for all three films during the third week of November could prove challenging, especially if Ramayana continues to perform strongly.
