Sonakshi Sinha Speaks Out Against Police Whisking Away Sonam Wangchuk

In a video posted to Instagram, Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha condemned the Delhi Police’s removal of activist Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar on the morning of Saturday, July 19. The move came after Wangchuk had begun a hunger strike on July 9 and was being held at the site for a day‑long protest that also involved the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). According to the actress, the police “whisked” Wangchuk away to Safdarjung Hospital on medical advice and in line with a Delhi High Court order, a decision that left many protesters disappointed.

Sonakshi Sinha, who has previously shown support for the CJP’s cause, praised the students and youth who had remained calm and non‑violent during the protest. She said, “No matter what has been going on, they have stayed calm, respectful, and have kept their point forward without violence. We all know the country’s strength is in its youth.” The actress expressed relief that Wangchuk was safe and that his wife was with him, adding that he was “strong, he’s alert.”

In her message, Sinha also addressed the planned march to Parliament on July 20. She urged participants to “raise your voice, but stay the same way you are,” calling for peace, unity and respect. She stated, “Everyone who has stood with Sonam sir has reminded us that bravery isn’t about making a noise, it’s also about standing with resolve and peace.” The actress called for a dialogue on July 20 and for every voice to receive the respect it deserves, closing with a patriotic “Jai Hind.”

The CJP, which has been demanding the removal of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged leak of NEET exam papers, escalated its agitation after the police action. Founder Abhijeet Dipke announced an indefinite hunger strike following the crackdown, and the group vowed to proceed with its march to Parliament on July 20. The incident has drawn attention to the broader debate over protest rights and police intervention in Delhi.
