PVR INOX Limited announced that it achieved its highest ever quarterly revenue, EBITDA and profit after tax for the period ending 30 September 2026, buoyed by a robust theatrical slate and increased consumer spending.
For the second quarter of fiscal 2027, the cinema chain recorded revenue of ₹21,327 million (approximately ₹2,133 crore) on an Ind AS 116‑adjusted basis, a 17% rise over the ₹18,187 million earned in the same quarter a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA climbed 44% year‑on‑year to ₹4,752 million, lifting the margin to 22.3% from 18.1% in Q2 FY26. Profit after tax from continuing operations jumped 111% to ₹2,733 million, compared with ₹1,296 million in Q2 FY26.
The chain welcomed 46.3 million patrons during the quarter, a 4% increase from the previous year, and improved occupancy to 30.4% from 28.7%. The average ticket price rose 14% to ₹298, while average food and beverage spend per head also grew 14% to ₹153. Both ticketing and F&B revenues increased 18% during the quarter.
Managing Director Ajay Bijli hailed the period as a “landmark quarter for Indian cinema and PVR INOX”, noting that record revenue, EBITDA and PAT were driven by strong content, higher consumer spending and disciplined costs. He added that margins were now well above pre‑COVID levels, the company generated significant free cash flow, completed its first share buyback and maintained a strong balance sheet.
The results come amid a record‑setting quarter for the Indian theatrical market. According to Ormax Media and company estimates, India’s gross box office collections reached ₹4,443 crore in Q2 FY27, marking the first time the market crossed ₹4,000 crore in a single quarter and representing 23% year‑on‑year growth. First‑half FY27 collections stood at ₹7,618 crore, up 22% year‑on‑year. English‑language films grew 87% to ₹1,024 crore, with Spider‑Man: Brand New Day topping the list at ₹608 crore and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey at ₹233 crore. Hindi box office, including dubbed titles, rose 12% year‑on‑year, with Hanuman Ansh earning ₹351 crore and Mirzapur: The Movie ₹267 crore. Regional cinema also grew 12%, driven by titles such as Toxic and Jana Nayagan.
PVR INOX remains net cash positive after its share buyback, having generated ₹6,035 million in free cash flow during the quarter.
