Anirudh bows out of SRK’s King; hands theme track to the superstar

Shah Rukh Khan and director Siddharth Anand are set to close 2026 with a bang, as their upcoming action epic, King, has become the most talked‑about film of the year. The duo are preparing a grand launch for the movie on the superstar’s birthday, which will kick off the full marketing push for the film.

In a surprising turn, music composer Anirudh has stepped away from the project. According to a source quoted by Bollywood Hungama, the decision was made after a mutual conversation between Anirudh and the makers, citing the composer’s packed schedule in South India as the main reason. “Siddharth Anand and Shah Rukh Khan want to release King in cinemas this Christmas without any delays. Anirudh has been juggling multiple commitments down south, making it difficult for him to devote the time and attention a film of this scale demands,” the source said.

With Anirudh’s departure, the responsibility for the film’s music and background score has been handed over to the duo Sachin‑Jigar. The source added that Anirudh has gifted the theme track of King to Shah Rukh Khan as a mark of respect, and Sachin‑Jigar will re‑imagine that track for the full score and soundtrack. In short, the movie will retain Anirudh’s touch in the theme, but the rest of the music will be crafted by Sachin‑Jigar.

King is billed as the most ambitious action film in Hindi cinema, with a budget estimated at around ₹450 crore, excluding Shah Rukh Khan’s fees and production costs. Sources say every penny will be visible on screen, underscoring the film’s grand scale.

Director Siddharth Anand describes the project as his biggest film to date and a love letter to the legend. He has tailored the entire narrative around the superstar’s larger‑than‑life persona. Fans can expect a high‑octane spectacle that promises to be a cinematic milestone.
