The first look of Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha has been unveiled for Namit Malhotra’s upcoming Ramayana film, adding a fresh face to the epic’s retelling. The poster, released by the makers, shows the actress as the princess of Janasthan, adorned in a regal ensemble complete with ornate gold jewelry and a striking headpiece that captures the character’s grandeur.
In a statement accompanying the poster, the team confirmed Singh’s casting, noting her role as Ravana’s sister. The actor expressed enthusiasm about the part, saying, “Being a part of Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana and playing Surpanakha is a truly special experience for me. She is a character with a significant place in this epic, and exploring her world has been an incredible journey as an actor.” She added that portraying a figure central to a story cherished across generations is a privilege and that audiences will soon witness the world being created by Nitesh Tiwari and Malhotra on a grand scale.
Surpanakha’s encounter with Rama and Lakshman during their exile is a pivotal moment in the Ramayana, setting off a chain of events that ultimately leads to the conflict between Rama and Ravana. By bringing this character to life, the film aims to deepen the narrative’s emotional core.
The ensemble cast also includes Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Prime Focus Studios in partnership with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, the project is slated to be released in two parts. Part 1 is scheduled for worldwide release on November 5, 2026, with Part 2 planned for Diwali 2027. The films will be available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, with an IMAX release, and Sony Pictures will handle international distribution outside India while Dharma Productions will manage the Hindi‑speaking market.
