Article 370 Wins National Film Award, Director Aditya Dhar Reacts

The 72nd National Film Awards, announced this Saturday, saw the film Article 370 take home the coveted Best Feature Film trophy. The movie also earned Yami Gautam the award for Best Actress and music composer Shashwat Sachdev the prize for Best Music Direction.

Aditya Dhar, who produced the film and is married to lead actress Yami Gautam, released a statement that reflected his mixed feelings of pride and humility. He described the win as a moment “difficult to put into words” and said it was “deeply emotional” and “overwhelming.” Dhar added that the team had never set out to chase accolades, but rather to tell a story with honesty, courage and sincerity.

In his remarks, Dhar thanked the jury for recognizing the film and singled out director Aditya Suhas Jambhale for his vision, Yami Gautam and co‑star Priyamani for their powerful performances, and Shashwat Sachdev for the music that became the film’s soul. He also praised the entire cast and crew for their relentless work and belief that made the project possible.

Jyoti Deshpande, president of Jio Studios, echoed the sentiment, calling the moment emotional and expressing gratitude to everyone who poured their hearts into the film. She noted that the journey began without awards in mind and that the celebration belongs to all involved.

Director Aditya Suhas Jambhale, who co‑wrote the script with Aditya Dhar, Monal Thaakar and Arjun Dhawan, said that receiving a National Award is the highest honour for a filmmaker. He emphasized that the film was not about easy answers but about engaging with a defining chapter of India’s history with sincerity, empathy and cinematic conviction.

The movie, produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar, stars Yami Gautam, Priyamani, Skand Thakur, Ashwini Kaul, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Arun Govil and Kiran Karmarkar. It is based on the 2019 revocation of the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution.
