Ramayana clears CBFC without cuts; earns rare ‘U’ rating

With the release of the epic drama “Ramayana” just under a week away, excitement is at a fever pitch. The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) earlier this week. The industry and fans alike were keen to find out whether the board would demand cuts or changes before granting a release certificate.

In a rare achievement, the CBFC’s Examining Committee granted the film a ‘U’ certificate without requesting any edits, cuts, or additions. No audio or visual modifications were asked for, and even standard requests such as including the title and credits in the film’s language or adding an anti‑drug ticker were declined. This clean pass is uncommon; recent releases like “The Vvan” and “Drishyam The Conclusion” also received no cuts but were given a U/A 16+ rating.

The certificate was handed over to the makers on October 30, confirming that the film’s runtime is 195 minutes—equivalent to three hours and fifteen minutes. A ‘U’ rating means the film is suitable for viewers of all ages, a distinction that underscores the board’s confidence in the movie’s content.

Produced by Namit Malhotra and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, “Ramayana” is a high‑budget project that aims to bring the ancient epic to modern audiences. The film’s release is highly anticipated, and the CBFC’s decision to approve it without cuts is expected to boost its box‑office prospects.
