Gujarat‑based filmmaker Hardik Gajjar has unveiled two new projects that follow his recent film Krishnavataram. The first, titled Tana Riri, will bring to the screen the folk tale of twin sisters Tana and Riri, who lived in 16th‑century Vadnagar and are celebrated for their musical talent and their link to the region’s cultural heritage. Gajjar is reuniting with Krishnavataram actor Sanskruti Jayana for the role of one of the sisters, and the film’s first poster hints at a period setting with the twins walking through a kingdom’s gates. The director aims to weave their story with the history of Indian classical music, offering audiences a glimpse into Gujarat’s past.
In addition to the folklore drama, Gajjar is developing Ajay Abhimanyu ki Mahabharat, a cinematic retelling that focuses on the epic hero Abhimanyu. The film will revisit the warrior’s famed courage and sacrifice during the Kurukshetra war, a pivotal episode in the Hindu epic. Both projects are being produced by Athashrikatha Motion Pictures LLP and directed by Gajjar himself.
Release dates for the two films have been set: Tana Riri is scheduled for October 2027, while Ajay Abhimanyu ki Mahabharat is slated for a June 2028 debut. With these announcements, Gajjar’s slate now spans both the rich folklore of Gujarat and the timeless narratives of the Mahabharata, showcasing the diversity of India’s storytelling traditions.
