On Saturday, October 31, the Mumbai film community mourned the loss of veteran director Sanjay Gupta, who passed away early that morning. The final rites will take place at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle, where the director’s cremation is scheduled for the same day.
Producer and close friend Ashoke Pandit posted an Instagram update on behalf of Gupta’s family, announcing the arrangements and urging friends, colleagues and well‑wishes to attend. The message read, “We regret to inform you of the sad demise of our beloved Sanjay Gupta,” and added, “We request your presence and prayers as we bid final farewell.” The post concluded with the names of Gupta’s family members and loved ones.
Industry colleagues were seen arriving at Gupta’s residence to offer condolences, underscoring the filmmaker’s wide network of relationships forged through decades of work in Hindi cinema. The collective presence at the crematorium is expected to pay tribute to his contributions.
Gupta’s career began with the 1994 action drama Aatish: Feel the Fire, starring Sanjay Dutt. He later directed high‑profile titles such as Kaante (2002), Shootout at Wadala (2013) and Kaabil (2017). He also collaborated on the 2007 film Shootout at Lokhandwala, directed by Apoorva Lakhia. Known for stylised storytelling and neo‑noir visuals, his work left a distinct imprint on commercial Hindi cinema.
The film fraternity and those who worked closely with Gupta are expected to gather at the Pawan Hans Crematorium to pay their final respects, marking the end of a prolific career that spanned several decades.
