Shah Rukh Khan Calls Aditya Chopra to Hand Over King’s Overseas Rights; YRF Gives Blessing

Shah Rukh Khan has personally reached out to Yash Raj Films (YRF) chief Aditya Chopra to hand over the overseas distribution rights for his upcoming film King. The move follows reports that Phars Films has secured the international distribution deal, a development that surprised many since YRF was initially slated to handle the film’s global release.

According to a source close to the superstar, SRK explained his decision to the YRF head and highlighted the long‑standing friendship between the two. SRK, who first worked with Aditya Chopra on the 1995 blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, shared that the bond extends back to Yash Chopra, the late legendary filmmaker and father of Aditya. The conversation reportedly went smoothly, with Chopra understanding SRK’s perspective and agreeing to relinquish the overseas rights. He also expressed his support for the film, noting his anticipation of seeing it during the Christmas season.

The announcement comes amid a series of changes surrounding King. Earlier this week, music composer Anirudh Ravichander stepped away from the project due to scheduling conflicts, but before his exit he handed the film’s theme track to SRK as a gesture of respect. The score will now be reworked by the duo Sachin‑Jigar, who will use the original theme as the foundation for the background music.

In addition to the distribution shift, T‑Series has secured exclusive global commercial music rights to the film for 50 years, a deal facilitated by Red Chillies Entertainment through Zee Music Company. The film also boasts a star‑studded cast that includes Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Anil Kapoor.

A new promotional asset for King is set to launch tomorrow, November 2, coinciding with SRK’s 61st birthday. The release is part of a broader promotional push that may include a midnight teaser reveal, as reported by industry insiders.
