In 2008 the Hindi film Shaurya made its debut, earning praise for its subject matter, direction, performances and writing. The climax monologue delivered by Kay Kay Menon remains one of the film’s most memorable moments and has since acquired cult status. Menon’s character, Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh, is the antagonist, and his speech is widely regarded as hate‑speaking. Despite this, a segment of the audience has begun to view the Brigadier as a hero, prompting criticism from netizens who find his views deeply problematic.
Bollywood Hungama spoke exclusively to actor Rahul Bose, who played the Army defence lawyer who ultimately brings the Brigadier to justice. When asked about the perception of Menon’s character, Bose said, “With changing times, the context changes and values change. But my core values have never changed and will never change. There’s no question of feeling. The idea is that we should keep our balance, don’t change your basic values of non‑violence and love, etc. The world will change one way and then another, but I won’t.” He added a metaphor about tomatoes to illustrate how society’s opinions shift, but the fundamentals should stay the same.
Bose continued, “As far as I am concerned, in these days and times, when things seem to have changed so radically, it’s important to know yourself completely, hold on to that reality and let everything else change. But the reality is that some things about you just need to remain the same. So, I have not moved one inch from who I was and what I am. And I’ll stay that way.” He also revealed plans to direct another film, stating, “Yes. I am writing an action film actually! It’s a clever film with a lot of humour, though it’s not of the Udta Teer variety. It is something 100% India has not seen before. But it’s very massy.”
Earlier in his career, Bose directed Everybody Says I’m Fine (2001) and Poorna (2017). He also spoke about his experience working with Kabir Bedi in Berlin, describing a smooth and understanding collaboration. The film’s box‑office performance and reviews continue to be discussed on Bollywood Hungama, where updates on new releases, box‑office collections and entertainment news are regularly posted.
