Ramayana shatters pre‑Diwali box‑office myth; Rs 25 cr+ in advance sales

Namit Malhotra’s epic adaptation of the Ramayana is already making history before it hits the big screen. The mythological spectacle, headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, has surpassed Rs. 25 crore in advance ticket sales, shattering the long‑standing belief that the pre‑Diwali window is a tough period for big releases.

With only two days left before the November 5 premiere, the film is on track to set an unprecedented benchmark. Kamal Gianchandani, Chief Business Planning and Strategy at PVR INOX Limited, celebrated the surge on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “With Rs. 25 crore+ in advance ticket sales and two more days to go, Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana has shattered the long‑believed pre‑Diwali jinx at the Indian box office!” He added that the movie is poised to record the biggest pre‑Diwali advance bookings in the 30‑plus‑year history of PVR INOX, calling it “a phenomenal milestone and a hugely encouraging moment for the entire Indian cinema industry.”

Traditionally, the days leading up to Diwali have been seen as a difficult period for theatrical releases, as audiences are preoccupied with festive preparations, shopping and family commitments. Consequently, filmmakers often schedule their biggest films for Diwali or the days immediately after. Ramayana’s remarkable advance booking response suggests that a film with extraordinary anticipation can overcome even this conventionally unfavourable window.

Industry observers are now watching closely as the film opens on November 5. If the momentum in pre‑sales translates into strong footfall, Ramayana could rewrite several box‑office records and alter the industry’s perception of the pre‑Diwali period.

Earlier today, Bollywood Hungama reported that as of 10 PM on Monday, November 2, Ramayana had sold tickets worth Rs. 30 crore nationwide, with final pre‑sales potentially reaching Rs. 60 crore. The three national chains have already sold more than 150,000 tickets and counting.
