The long‑awaited third entry in the Munna Bhai series may finally be moving forward, according to a new report. Film director Rajkumar Hirani is said to have hired writer Farhad Samji to work on the screenplay, and the project is expected to start shooting in 2027, though no official confirmation has yet been released.
Variety India reported that Samji, who has been involved with the franchise since its first film in 2003, is currently drafting the script and should finish it soon. Samji’s earlier work includes the opening refrain of the hit song “M Bole Toh” from Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. The upcoming film will bring back Sanjay Dutt as the titular character, Murli Prasad Sharma, and Arshad Warsi as his sidekick Circuit, who together delivered the chemistry that made the original and its 2006 sequel, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, memorable.
Hirani has repeatedly said that he will not rush the sequel until a story that matches the first two movies is ready. In an interview with Hindustan Times in June, he explained the challenge, stating, “If you only want to see Munna Bhai up to the interval, I can make five films right now. Because I don’t have the story beyond that point.” Warsi echoed this sentiment, noting that three incomplete scripts exist but lack the central link needed to tie the narrative together.
If production proceeds as reported, audiences could see Dutt and Warsi reunite on screen after nearly twenty years. However, neither the filmmakers nor the actors have confirmed the shooting schedule or release date. The next critical step remains the completion of the screenplay, with fans awaiting an official announcement on the return of Munna Bhai and Circuit.
