Indian film star Vijay Sethupathi has been announced as the first Indian presenter at the 54th International Emmy Awards, a landmark moment for Indian talent on the global stage. The ceremony, which will be held in New York on November 23, 2026, is organized by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and celebrates television programs produced outside the United States. Sethupathi’s role as a presenter will place him among the handful of international personalities who have been invited to host at the prestigious event.
The decision to bring Sethupathi to the Emmy stage is part of a broader initiative to showcase Indian artists at prominent global platforms. Kavita Gupta, a producer and board member of the International Academy, is credited with playing a key part in making the arrangement possible. Her involvement highlights the growing partnership between Indian cinema and international television bodies.
For Sethupathi, the announcement comes amid a busy period in his career. He has recently appeared in “Baththa,” directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, a film that delves into the moral redemption of a gangster. Upcoming projects include Mani Ratnam’s “Inji Vellam,” starring Sai Pallavi, and Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s “Pocket Novel,” which also features Raj B Shetty and Malavika Mohanan. In addition, he confirmed that his 2024 action drama “Maharaja” is slated for a Hollywood remake, and that a sequel is already in development with director Nithilan Saminathan.
The International Emmy Awards will bring together television professionals from around the world, and Sethupathi’s appearance is expected to draw attention to the quality and diversity of Indian television production. His participation underscores the expanding influence of Indian creatives in the global entertainment arena.
