Indian audiences have long celebrated the sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for its 18‑year run, but recent rumors claiming that veteran actor Dilip Joshi was leaving the show sparked a wave of speculation online. The rumors, which circulated on social media and some news outlets, suggested that Joshi’s character Jethalal Gada would soon bid farewell to the series. In a press interaction held on the set of the show last Friday, Joshi addressed the claims head‑on and made it clear that he has no intention of exiting the series.
During the brief interview, Joshi expressed concern over the speed at which unverified stories spread. He warned that “people publish all kinds of fabricated stories just to get views” and urged media houses to confirm any information with the production house or the individual concerned before publishing. “Before you publish or print anything, please confirm it once with the production house or with the person concerned to check whether it is true or false,” he said, emphasizing the need for responsible journalism.
Reflecting on the show’s longevity, Joshi noted that the sitcom has produced over 4,750 episodes and that maintaining the same level of enthusiasm and passion remains a daily challenge. He thanked God for the opportunity to continue entertaining audiences and praised the creative team for keeping the comedy fresh. “It is not easy to keep creating new stories and episodes on fresh topics for so many years,” he said, adding that producer Asit Kumarr Modi and the writers “do a truly wonderful job” and deserve appreciation.
Joshi concluded his remarks by once again urging media organisations to verify facts before publishing. He acknowledged that policing every social media post is impossible, but a simple phone call to the production team or the celebrity could prevent the spread of misinformation. “A simple phone call can prevent widespread misinformation,” he added.
The show continues to enjoy a loyal viewership, thanks to its relatable characters and light‑hearted humor. Alongside Joshi’s Jethalal, the ensemble cast includes Nirmal Soni as Dr. Hansraj Hathi, Munmun Dutta as Babita Iyer, and Amit Bhatt as Champaklal, all of whom contribute to the sitcom’s enduring appeal.
