In a surprising revelation, veteran actor Paresh Rawal has claimed that the idea behind Akshay Kumar’s 2023 hit “OMG 2” was his own, yet he was not credited for the concept. Rawal told Vickey Lalwani that he first approached filmmaker Amit Rai, known for “Road to Sangam,” with a story about a schoolboy whose video of an embarrassing incident goes viral, a narrative that would eventually become part of the “Oh My God!” franchise.
Rawal explained that the original script centred on a boy whose father was a tourist guide at Khajuraho. Rai suggested changing the father into a part‑time priest at the Mahakaleshwar Temple, and together they refined the plot, even bringing sexologist Dr. Prakash Kothari on board for authenticity. The duo later pitched the idea to Anurag Kashyap and Somen Mishra of Dharma Productions, only to be turned down by Mishra.
According to Rawal, he never intended for a divine figure to appear in the story. He even approached Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan for the biker role he envisioned, deliberately avoiding Akshay Kumar to prevent the film from being seen as a sequel. When Kumar expressed interest, Rawal declined, stating, “This isn’t the film I had envisioned. There is no role of God in this story.”
Rawal said that later, when producer Ashwin Varde introduced Kumar to the script, he was told that the film would be a franchise. Despite his objections, the project proceeded and ultimately released under Kumar’s banner, earning critical acclaim and box‑office success. Rawal’s claim raises questions about credit and creative ownership in Bollywood’s collaborative filmmaking process.
