Bollywood Stars Ready for Comeback; Big Screen Returns After Years

After a long hiatus, several Bollywood veterans are stepping back into the spotlight, announcing new projects that signal a fresh chapter in their careers. Govinda, the former “Hero No. 1,” held a press conference on July 13 to unveil Roopa, a film he is both starring in and producing. He introduced newcomer Rani Swarnkar as the female lead and reflected on the doubts that surrounded his return: “People kept saying, ‘Now he won’t appear in films anymore.’” Govinda’s last leading role was in Rangeela Raja (2019), and now, after seven years, he is back with Chi‑chi.

Imran Khan, known as the “chocolate boy,” made a quiet exit from Bollywood in 2015. After a decade away from the screen, he re‑emerged with a cameo in Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, a collaboration with Aamir Khan and Vir Das. His official comeback is slated for Adhure Hum Adhure Tum, a Netflix romantic dramedy directed by Danish Aslam of Break Ke Baad fame. Co‑starring Bhumi Pednekar, Imran also co‑produces the film and described the set as “the happiest I’ve ever been on.”

Preity Zinta is returning with not one but two projects. Her first film, Batwara 1947 (originally titled Lahore 1947), releases on August 14 and stars Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, and Ali Fazal. The movie is produced by Aamir Khan. Zinta is also set to appear in Kunal Kemmu’s comedy‑drama Vibe, an OTT release. Her last theatrical lead was Bhaiaji Superhit (2018).

Celina Jaitly, who spent recent years embroiled in a child‑custody battle and campaigning for her brother’s return from UAE custody, announced in July 2026 that she will return to the big screen after 15 years. She will star in Sister Nibedita, a biopic about the Irish‑born disciple of Swami Vivekananda, directed by National Award‑winning filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee. Jaitly wrote on Instagram, “I had to walk through my own fire to arrive at this moment.”

Mahima Pandey, a journalist at HT City, highlighted the importance of bridging the entertainment industry with the public. She enjoys covering Bollywood updates, films, fashion trends, and industry gossip, believing that her work offers readers valuable insights into the world of cinema.
