Vijay's Jana Nayagan Sets Record In Advance Booking; Still Behind GOAT

After a protracted production saga marked by delays, leaks and logistical hurdles, actor‑turned‑politician Thalapathy Vijay’s final cinematic outing, Jana Nayagan, is slated to open worldwide on Thursday, July 23. The Tamil political action drama, directed by H. Vinoth, brings Vijay a step closer to a full‑time political career while promising audiences a grand farewell spectacle.

The film’s pre‑sales have already drawn massive crowds, with Tamil Nadu leading the charge. According to Sacnilk, more than 5.3 lakh tickets have been sold across India, and Money Control reports that opening‑day ticket sales have surpassed 6 lakh. Within just 48 hours of opening, advance bookings have generated over ₹15 crore, a record for Vijay’s farewell film.

Globally, pre‑sales have crossed the ₹30 crore mark, but trade observers note that the numbers, while impressive, still trail Vijay’s 2024 blockbuster The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), which amassed over ₹50 crore in worldwide pre‑sales before its release. In India alone, advance bookings have topped ₹16 crore, positioning Jana Nayagan for an estimated ₹50–60 crore opening day at the domestic box office.

Ticket pricing for the film varies across regions. Premium recliner seats at select multiplexes in Bengaluru, such as Cinépolis and Nexus Shantiniketan, are priced at ₹2,500. In Tamil Nadu, however, ticket prices are capped at ₹190 under the Thalapathy Vijay government’s regulations.
