The widow of former “The Cosby Show” star Malcolm‑Jamal Warner, Tenisha Warner, has filed a lawsuit against the actor’s mother, Pamela Warner, on July 20, 2026. The suit alleges that the late actor failed to honor financial promises made under a prenuptial agreement signed in May 2022, and seeks more than $1.2 million from the Warner Family Trust, which Pamela Warner currently manages.
Malcolm‑Jamal Warner, best known for playing Theo Huxtable, died on July 20, 2025, at age 54 after drowning while vacationing in Costa Rica. According to the complaint, Tenisha claims that Malcolm promised her several monetary benefits before his death, including a $1 million life‑insurance policy with her as the sole beneficiary, annual tax‑free payments of $16,000, contributions to a Roth IRA, and a $5,000 monthly salary for her role as his chief of staff and assistant during their marriage.
The lawsuit lists the unpaid obligations at $1,276,042.46, broken down as $1 million for the life‑insurance claim, more than $50,000 in anniversary payments, $30,500 in Roth IRA contributions, and roughly $195,000 in unpaid salary. Tenisha argues that Malcolm’s estate may not have enough assets to cover the sum, which is why she is seeking recovery from the family trust.
In addition to the principal amount, the suit requests interest, attorney’s fees, and an injunction preventing Pamela Warner from distributing any money or property from the trust while the case is pending. The allegations remain unproven in court.
Beyond his work on “The Cosby Show,” Malcolm‑Jamal Warner continued to act in series such as “Malcolm & Eddie” and “The Resident,” and also worked as a director, musician, and spoken‑word artist.
