Vedika Pinto on 'Nishaanchi': Respect from Anurag Kashyap; Career Milestone

In a recent interview with PTI, Mumbai‑based actress Vedika Pinto reflected on the highs and lows of her career after starring in Anurag Kashyap’s 2025 crime drama Nishaanchi. Pinto, who first appeared in Neeraj Pandey’s 2022 romantic‑thriller Operation Romeo and later played a role in Aditya Roy Kapur’s action film Gumraah, described the film as a “biggest milestone” in her professional life.

Despite receiving mixed to positive reviews from critics, Nishaanchi failed to make an impact at the box office. Pinto said, “My heart was broken. It’s especially sad when you can’t understand it because I got so much love for that movie. I don’t think I read a bad review, I don’t think anyone said anything negative about the movie. So it gets a little confusing that if everyone is saying good, why can’t it be good.” She added that the disappointment was compounded by the film’s commercial performance, which she described as a heartbreak.

The film, released in 2025, follows two brothers whose divergent paths highlight how choices shape destiny. It marked the acting debut of Aaishvary Thackeray and featured Monika Panwar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Kumud Mishra. Pinto said working with Kashyap was a transformative experience, stating, “I learned not just how to be a better actor but how to be a better person. I learned how to accept myself during that film. Also, working with Anurag is a masterclass in life.” She expressed pride in being part of the project a year after its release and credited the collaboration with opening new doors in the industry.

In particular, Pinto highlighted how her role in Nishaanchi led to a part in the upcoming series Musafir Café. Casting director Karan Mally approached her after the series’ writer, Sharanya Rajpolam, noticed her performance in the film. “I’ve always dreamed of being in a love story,” Pinto said. “Earlier, I used to tell my family, friends and more recently to my agency that I want to do a love story so for me it feels like destiny.” She added that she connected deeply with the character Sudha, the series’ lead, and that the show is set against the backdrop of Bhopal and Mussoorie, based on Divya Prakash Dubey’s book of the same name and written and created by Sharanya Rajgopal, with direction by Ruchir Arun of Little Things.
