Veteran actor and BJP central committee member Mithun Chakraborty underwent a successful surgical operation at a private hospital in Kolkata on Thursday. The procedure, which involved the removal of a metal plate that had been implanted after a previous injury, was reported to have gone well, and the actor is now in a stable condition and recovering.
Following the surgery, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari paid a visit to the hospital to check on the star. In a social media post, Adhikari wrote, "Distinguished film actor and BJP central committee member Mithun Chakraborty has been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata due to health issues. I visited the hospital today to see him. I spoke with him and enquired about his health condition. I pray to the Almighty God for his speedy recovery."
Sources confirmed that the operation was carried out to remove the metal plate that had been inserted after an earlier incident. No complications were reported, and the actor remains under medical observation as he recuperates.
Chakraborty, who has been a prominent figure in both cinema and politics, recently campaigned extensively for the BJP during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, which saw the party defeat the Trinamool Congress and form the state government. He is also slated to appear in Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Jailer 2.
The actor’s daughter, Dishani Chakraborty, recently announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend Myles Mantzaris, with the wedding date set for later this year.
