Spider-Man: Brand New Day Outperforms Indian Blockbusters; Races Towards All-Time Record

Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as the friendly neighbourhood Spider‑Man, Spider‑Man: Brand New Day, opened in Indian theatres last week and immediately set a new benchmark for Hollywood releases in the country. The film’s opening weekend net collection of ₹254 crore marked the highest ever for a Hollywood film in India, eclipsing the North‑American record set by Avengers: Endgame and matching the opening performance of Indian blockbusters such as Pathaan and Animal.

Within just 11 days of release, Brand New Day has crossed the ₹400‑crore threshold – a feat that only a handful of films, including Avatar: The Way of Water, have achieved at the Indian box office. By Sunday, the film’s net take was projected to reach ₹420 crore (about $53 million), putting it on course to surpass Avengers: Endgame’s Indian record of $61 million. The second‑weekend haul was strong, with an additional ₹15 crore on Friday and a remarkable ₹31 crore on Saturday, pushing the total to ₹380 crore in ten days.

The movie’s success is rewriting the competitive landscape for Indian cinema. It has already out‑earned the highest‑grossing films starring Bollywood icons Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Vijay – whose top releases netted ₹320 crore, ₹387 crore, and ₹341 crore respectively. Brand New Day is on track to catch up to the massive earnings of Pathaan (₹543 crore) and Animal (₹554 crore), and may even surpass Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (₹640 crore) before its run concludes.

Across India, the film is playing on 4,000 screens with more than 13,000 shows scheduled, and it currently faces no direct competition until the release of Toxic on August 26. The Marvel Cinematic Universe entry stars Holland as Peter Parker, with Zendaya returning as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. Directed by Destin D‑? (source incomplete), the story follows Peter living independently as Spider‑Man in a world that no longer remembers him, confronting new threats as old friends move on.
