HYBE Expands to India; Enters Fastest-Growing Music Ecosystem

HYBE, the South Korean entertainment powerhouse behind global K‑pop sensations such as BTS, Seventeen, Tomorrow X Together, Enhypen and Le Sserafim, has officially launched a branch in India, marking the company’s latest move into one of the world’s fastest‑growing music markets. The announcement came from HYBE’s India CEO, Damien Woochang Lee, who explained that India’s vibrant, culturally diverse music scene makes it a natural next step for the firm’s global expansion strategy.

Lee highlighted that while Bollywood remains a significant force, the country is experiencing a rapid surge in independent artists, expanding live‑performance infrastructure, and accelerating digital music consumption. He noted that these trends are creating an open, genre‑fluid ecosystem ripe for innovation and long‑term growth. “The country’s cultural and linguistic diversity gives Indian artists the potential to connect with audiences both at home and globally,” Lee said, adding that HYBE India aims to provide talent from across the country with opportunities to develop within a world‑class creative ecosystem while staying rooted in their cultural identities.

In an interview with PTI, Lee emphasized that HYBE’s approach in India will differ from the rigid idol‑training model that has defined its Korean operations. “Every market is different, and India’s diversity calls for an approach that is equally thoughtful and locally relevant,” he said. “We don’t believe in a one‑size‑fits‑all approach.” Instead, the company plans to blend its expertise in artist development, music and content production, performance training and fan engagement with a deep understanding of India’s own creative traditions and cultural context.

Lee also shared that his personal favourite independent Indian artists include Hanumankind, Rebel, Guru Randhawa, Diljit Dosanjh and Karan Aujla, underscoring HYBE’s commitment to discovering and nurturing talent beyond Korean borders. The company’s expansion into India follows its recent growth in Japan, the United States, China and Mexico, and reflects HYBE’s broader ambition to build a music ecosystem tailored to India’s unique cultural landscape.

With the launch of HYBE India, the entertainment giant is poised to tap into a market that offers significant opportunities for collaboration, cross‑cultural exchange and the creation of new music that resonates both locally and globally. The company’s entry into India signals a strategic shift toward a more inclusive, globally integrated music industry that values diverse creative voices.
