Bharat Chauhan on Collaborating with Seedhe Maut; Seven-Album Journey

Bharat Chauhan, the singer‑songwriter known for his introspective style, opened up in an exclusive interview with the Hindustan Times about his latest release, Uns, and the artistic choices that define it. The 12‑track album, dropped on 21 July 2026, follows his 2022 record Qurbat and marks a deliberate shift away from the acoustic‑heavy sound that characterized his earlier work. Instead, Uns is “fuller, heavier and more band‑driven,” according to Chauhan, who explained that he wanted to move beyond the solitary, intimate arrangements of his past albums and embrace a richer, more collaborative sonic palette.

The journey behind the album is deeply personal. Chauhan said he did not start Uns with a fixed blueprint; the sound evolved as he worked, with the intent to document the period between Qurbat and the new release. He described the album as a “chronicle of my own life,” a narrative that follows a progression from affection and longing to grief, culminating in the track “Meri Maaye,” a heartfelt conversation with his mother. The sequencing of the album was carefully curated by Chauhan himself, beginning on a lighter note and gradually descending into deeper sadness, mirroring the emotional arc he experienced in real life.

In addition to the personal themes, Uns also marks a significant collaboration with the Delhi‑based hip‑hop duo Seedhe Maut. The partnership introduced a new rhythmic dimension to Chauhan’s music, blending his traditional Urdu poetry influences with contemporary rap elements. He noted that working with Seedhe Maut was a conscious decision to broaden his musical horizons while staying true to his core values of authenticity and personal storytelling.

Chauhan’s commitment to authenticity extends beyond the studio. He has long resisted the temptation to create music that merely satisfies audience expectations. In the interview, he emphasized that his songs are “shaped by love, loss, memory and an enduring connection with Urdu poetry and ghazals,” and that he refuses to compromise that personal connection for commercial appeal. This philosophy is reflected in the structure of Uns, where the majority of tracks are band‑driven, with only one acoustic piece, a deliberate choice that underscores his desire to evolve artistically.

Looking ahead, Chauhan revealed that Uns is the second chapter in a planned seven‑album journey. Each record, he says, will document a distinct phase of his life, allowing listeners to follow his growth both musically and personally. With Uns now out, fans can expect a more robust sound, deeper lyrical content, and a clear statement that authenticity remains at the heart of his creative process.
