Amruta Khanvilkar, the popular Hindi and Marathi film actress, has issued a formal legal notice to the press and social media platforms after a series of unverified reports claimed that she and her husband, actor Himanshu Malhotra, have been living apart for the past eighteen months. The notice, dated August 10, 2026, was sent by Khanvilkar’s legal team and warns that any publication of defamatory or invasive content about the couple’s personal life will be met with legal action.
The legal letter states that “certain online, social media and digital platforms are circulating content concerning Ms. Amruta Khanvilkar and her personal life, which is baseless, defamatory and/or in violation of her privacy.” While acknowledging the right to freedom of expression, the team draws a clear line against “misleading reporting, rumours, unverified allegations or misleading information concerning Ms. Amruta Khanvilkar.” The notice further adds that those who publish or share such material “will be taken seriously” and may face “appropriate legal action” if evidence supports the claim.
These proceedings come after a Times of India article suggested that the couple had maintained separate addresses for the last year and a half. According to the report, the decision to live separately was driven by practical concerns such as financial realities, shifting career priorities, and family obligations, rather than any marital discord. An insider confirmed that no divorce or legal separation is underway, and that the pair remain on good terms, frequently catching up on personal and professional matters.
In the notice, Khanvilkar’s representatives also mentioned that they are actively tracking and documenting instances of alleged defamatory content. They stated, “All such instances are being monitored and documented for appropriate legal recourse.” The legal team emphasized that the action is not a blanket censorship of media but a targeted response to “defamatory statements, rumours, unverified allegations or misleading information” that could harm the actress’s reputation.
While the couple’s decision to live apart has not been disputed, the legal notice underscores Khanvilkar’s determination to protect her privacy and reputation against what she describes as “baseless” claims. The notice serves as a warning to media houses and social media users that any further dissemination of unverified information about the actress’s marriage will be met with swift legal measures.
