New evidence from the Argentine investigation into the death of former One Direction singer Liam Payne has surfaced, offering a more detailed look at the circumstances that led to the 31‑year‑old’s tragic fall from a hotel balcony on October 16, 2024. The Daily Mail reports that investigators have released more than 3,000 documents and photographs taken at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, where Payne was staying at the time of his death.
Among the images, one shows Payne swinging around a pole inside the hotel the night before he died, while other photos depict hotel staff bringing alcohol into his room. These visual clues reinforce earlier accounts that Payne’s alcohol consumption and drug use were factors in the events that unfolded that day. Investigators have stated that both substances played a role in the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
On the morning of October 16, hotel records and witness statements indicate that Payne met two sex workers in the lobby. The women later spoke with investigators, describing how Payne sang for them and asked about obtaining narcotics. Their testimonies were combined with other evidence to build a picture of Payne’s condition as the day progressed.
Staff members grew increasingly concerned about Payne’s erratic behaviour and eventually called emergency services, fearing that he might harm himself. The worry was heightened by the fact that his hotel room had balcony access. Investigators are examining the possibility that Payne may have been attempting to leave the room via the balcony shortly before he fell, but the exact sequence of events remains unclear.
Payne had arrived in Argentina a little over two weeks earlier, initially staying at the Park Hyatt with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy and businessman Rogelio “Roger” Nores. Reports suggest that he was sober for much of the early part of the trip, but Cassidy departed for Miami on October 14, just two days before his death. After a dispute over damaged property and a disagreement with hotel staff, Payne checked into CasaSur Palermo, where he spent the final days of his life.
The Buenos Aires police force has confirmed that they were alerted to an aggressive man who may have been under the influence of alcohol and drugs. While the new material does not provide a definitive answer about what happened in those final moments, it adds significant detail to the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of Liam Payne’s death.
