Amruta Khanvilkar has taken a firm stand against circulating rumors about her personal life, issuing a legal warning after a wave of reports claimed she was married to actor Himanshu Malhotra and that the couple had been separated for 18 months. The actress posted a statement from her legal team on Instagram, jointly with Malhotra, on August 10, 2026, urging digital platforms and individuals to stop sharing what she called “baseless, defamatory or unverified content” about her.
The statement acknowledges the right to freedom of expression but cautions that misuse of that freedom to publish or circulate defamatory statements, rumors, or misleading information about Ms. Khanvilkar will be taken seriously. It warns that legal action may be pursued where evidence supports it, and that all instances of such content are being monitored and documented for appropriate legal recourse.
Amruta’s team emphasized that the circulating content is “baseless, defamatory and/or in violation of her privacy,” and that any individuals, entities or organisations responsible for creating, publishing, circulating or sharing such material could face legal consequences in accordance with applicable law.
These developments come amid ongoing public interest in the relationship between Khanvilkar and Malhotra, who have previously discussed their unconventional marriage and the fact that they have been living apart for 1.5 years. Despite speculation about a possible separation, the couple maintains that they are still married.
