CINTAA hits back at dissolution claims; rejects EC dissolution allegations

The Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA), one of India’s oldest actors’ unions, has issued a firm statement refuting reports that its Executive Committee (EC) has been dissolved. According to the association, the claim is “incorrect, misconceived and unsupported by the Constitution.” The president, Poonam Dhillon, confirmed that no dissolution has taken place and that the EC remains fully operational.

CINTAA’s constitution stipulates that the EC can only be dissolved if more than 50 per cent of its elected members resign. The association argues that this threshold has not been met, and therefore its executive body continues to function. Vacancies that have arisen have been filled by inducting the next eligible members based on the voting count, in line with the constitutional framework.

Legal counsel for CINTAA, Adv. Suvigya Vidyarthi, said that the circulating narrative that the EC is dissolved is “totally wrong, misconceived and lacks any judicial sanctity.” He accused FWICE of overstepping its authority, claiming that the organization had issued directives that CINTAA views as “wholly untenable and contrary to the Constitution.” Vidyarthi added that the EC remains in existence and continues to work for the welfare of artistes and the protection of vulnerable actors.

In a public notice, CINTAA warned that “some confusion is being sought to be created by some disgruntled members of CINTAA for oblique motives.” The union reiterated that it is fully functional, its doors remain open to members, and its work continues uninterrupted. The association emphasised that internal disagreements or resignations cannot erase its constitutional structure or institutional legitimacy.
