Rohit Sharma Debuts in Entertainment; Hosts Own Show on Sony

After stepping away from the T20 and Test formats, former Indian captain Rohit Sharma is launching a new chapter in his career by entering the entertainment arena. The cricket icon will make his television debut with a self‑hosted show on Sony Pictures Networks, a move that marks his first foray onto the small screen. The network’s press release highlighted the addition as part of its strategy to broaden its Hindi entertainment portfolio.

While the specifics of the programme remain under wraps, Sony released a teaser a few days ago that hints at the show’s tone and content. The one‑minute‑forty‑second clip shows Sharma interacting with a crowd of fans who urge him to repeat the viral line, “Koi bhi garden mein nahi ghumega,” a phrase that has become synonymous with his on‑field charisma. The teaser ends with the cricketer growing increasingly frustrated as the fans’ requests pile up, culminating in a dramatic exit from the scene.

In the same announcement, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) unveiled its extensive festive‑season lineup. Alongside Sharma’s debut, the network is set to launch Season 18 of “Kaun Banega Crorepati,” which will premiere today on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV under the campaign “Sochna Padega.” The iconic quiz show continues its tradition of celebrating knowledge and life‑changing stories.

Other new offerings include “Crime Patrol 2026,” a true‑crime series hosted by Ajay Devgn, and the comedy‑driven “Indian Game Show” featuring Bharti Singh and Harssh Limbachiyaa. The slate also features “Scam 2010,” a Sony LIV series directed by Hansal Mehta, and “Kon Honar Crorepati,” a Marathi version of KBC with Madhuri Dixit as host. For Tamil audiences, Sony LIV will present “MasterChef Tamil” with Samantha Ruth Prabhu and “Tamil Idol,” the first Tamil adaptation of the global singing competition, led by AR Rahman.

Gaurav Banerjee, Managing Director & CEO of SPNI, commented on the diverse lineup, noting that “India’s entertainment landscape is increasingly being shaped by audiences who move freely across languages, genres and screens. Our focus is therefore on building compelling intellectual properties and stories that can connect with audiences wherever and how.”
