Bollywood’s latest buzz revolves around the fallout between director Farhan Akhtar and actor Ranveer Singh, sparked by the latter’s abrupt exit from the much‑anticipated film Don 3. The drama unfolded just days before shooting was slated to begin, leaving the production team scrambling and the industry divided over the reasons behind the departure.
During a recent sit‑down with The Hollywood Reporter India, Farhan was reflecting on the 25th anniversary of his debut film Dil Chahta Hai. While discussing how Saif Ali Khan had left a previous project due to scheduling conflicts, he drew a parallel to Ranveer’s recent decision. “It was a month away from filming, which seems to be a pattern nowadays,” Farhan quipped, a clear jab aimed at the actor without naming him. The interviewer laughed, prompting Farhan to clarify that such exits “happen with me too,” hinting at a broader trend in the industry.
Ranveer’s exit from Don 3 was reported to stem from a dispute over the role and the director’s alleged approach to Hrithik Roshan behind his back. After a major hit with Dhurandhar in December, Farhan had re‑signed Ranveer, only for the actor to walk away days before the shoot. Ranveer allegedly offered to return the signing amount, but the makers demanded a compensation of ₹45 crore for pre‑production losses. The situation escalated when the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non‑cooperation directive against Ranveer, which was later revoked after clarifications that he was not banned. Ranveer’s team even sent a legal notice to the film body in response to the directive.
Farhan’s recent comments have reignited the controversy, with many interpreting his “pattern” remark as a playful dig at Ranveer. The incident underscores the challenges of coordinating schedules, contracts, and creative visions in Bollywood’s high‑stakes productions, and it remains to be seen how the dispute will resolve itself.
